Like I alluded, I’m just starting out. Nonetheless, I know what I want: a reliable, responsive camera that will not get in the way of getting THE SHOT. It would really piss me off if my camera hesitates and I miss the shot because of it. So no “point-and-shoots” for me…not even a mirrorless. Nope, it has to be a DSLR! For me, it’s a CANON T4i (650d, if outside the US). Got the EF-S 18-135 mm IS STM kit lens with it. Why the T4i? The touch screen interface makes adjustments really quick and intuitive and the improved auto-focus (remember, it’s about getting the shot). Why the kit lens? Mainly because it’s because of a packaged deal. But also the extend zoom is more useful than the 18-55 mm. I’ve used an 18-55 mm before; it’s not very versatile.
If I had the money, I would have liked a 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM… It’s an L-lens! Good, versatile L-lens for a reasonable price.
But I am planning to get a 50 mm prime in the near future. Still deciding between the f/1.8 or the f/1.4 USM. The 1.4 will be better built and have a faster focus, but does cost 3x of the 1.8. Frankly, I think I will be pretty happy with the photo quality of the 1.8…or is the 1.4 more of an investment for the future?
